Locations: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, India, Indonesia, Italy, Korea, Russia, Spain and Turkey

Iconoculture, Inc., a growing U.S. based research company that delivers consumer understanding through a unique combination of observation, classification, translation and analysis is seeking Cultural Fluents globally. As a Cultural Fluent, you must posses a deep understanding of and keen observational insight into your local culture, along with the ability to translate your cultural observations into opportunities for business. Individuals must live in one of the following countries—Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, India, Indonesia, Italy, Korea, Russia, Spain and Turkey—and demonstrate authentic expertise and experience with local society, culture, business, media, and politics. The ability to fluently speak and read both English and the local language is a must. Candidates should be in a position to consistently access the Internet, and communicate with U.S. based strategists via email and participate in web-based dialogue on a regular (daily/multiple times per week) basis. Ideal candidate should also be comfortable with the following activities: Use of still and video cameras, comprehensive reading of local and regional media and blogging.

Responsibilities:
• Provide Iconoculture and clients with an active, accurate and insightful view of local and regional culture, including social, political, entertainment, and business-related issues
• Learn and apply Iconoculture’s proprietary observational methodology and framework (appropriate training will be provided).
• Research and explore consumer behavior through observation, secondary resources, and interactions with local consumers
• Identify emerging consumer trends across different demographics, industries, and lifestyle categories.
• Communicate insights and information in a clear, detailed and enlightening fashion on a regular basis
• Respond to Iconoculture inquiries in a timely, proactive, and in-depth manner
• Connect with Iconoculture’s global strategy team on a timely and regular basis by participating in online discussion groups, phone conferences, web meetings, live meetings, or other activities as necessary
• Support cultural insights with rich media, including but not limited to digital photographs, video, and/or audio.

Deliverables:
• Participate in weekly conference calls with Iconoculture’s global team
• Log into Iconoculture’s private online insights community on regular basis (daily/multiple times per week) to provide new insights from primary and secondary sources, and to participate in and comment on existing open conversations; written contributions should be thoughtful and well written; arguments should be strongly supported with appropriate evidence
• Capture and upload rich media (a minimum of one five-minute video or audio clip and 10 still images per week, supporting insights that you have identified)
• On occasion and within reason, visit locations, attend events, or purchase and ship products relevant to identified insights (pre-approved expenses paid by Iconoculture)

Requirements:
• Bachelors degree in journalism, international marketing, cultural studies, anthropology, or other social science preferred; current non-conflicting employment in any of the above areas a plus
• Experience, expertise, and fluency in local culture
• Read/speak fluently in local language(s) as well as English
• Deep and extensive set of international contacts and relationships, both informal and professional
• A passion for consumer culture, and keen ability to read patterns and identify trends
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Proven ability to work productively in a virtual work environment without set hours or fixed objectives, and to create necessary personal systems to maximize productivity.
• Self-starter; highly responsible regarding deadlines and commitments.

Technical requirements: Iconoculture will provide a fixed stipend for regular wear of equipment and/or new equipment
• Access to computer and reliable high-speed internet access
• Possess and be able to operate a digital camera to take video and still images in a standard quality determined by Iconoculture
• Equipment to record audio
